Changing Times :: Update from Taiga Press

It’s been awhile. Thank you for sticking with me, despite my absence these past few months. Motherhood has consumed more of my time than I ever imagined (in the best of ways). Being home with Simone has impacted my ability to work, create, and expand Taiga Press. As she continues to grow, finding ways to run a one-woman business feels increasingly more challenging and uncertain.

And these are very uncertain times. The news is changing every minute and there is a palpable fear in the air. We’ve been practicing a lot of social distancing around here, going out only for walks. I feel very fortunate that my husband is a teacher with job security and that we have other sources of income beyond my business.

So, despite all the doubt, it feels like a good time for a change--one that I’ve been brainstorming since the start of the year. I’ve hit a wall creatively and feel that I no longer have enough time to grow Taiga Press, let alone keep up the status quo. I’m increasingly feeling drawn toward new aesthetics and artistic mediums. I want to take this opportunity  to downsize my current operations in order to allow more time and space to create, in the hopes that I'll be able to regroup and slowly integrate new products in the future. I’m proud of the business I built and this isn’t the end--just a turning point. I can't say for sure what is yet to come, but can any of us in this current climate?

This means I won’t be restocking any of the current designs after they sell out. In addition, I will no longer be accepting new wholesale accounts. I may take on select custom projects, especially with past clients, but in general, I’ll be devoting a majority of my time to finding ways to make the business work in conjunction with my family and our lifestyle. I hope to have a better grasp of what these changes look like by autumn.

In order to make space for change, I’ve discounted a lot of items in the Taiga Press Shop and on Etsy. Select cards and prints are 50% off and select boxed sets of cards are 30% off. And there’s still free shipping when you spend over $35.

I know this is a time of social distress, but I honestly believe this period of hunkering down may provide us all more space for reflection. Sending encouraging, thoughtful messages through the mail can be the perfect medium for such musings, prompting much needed human connection and reconnection.

Stay safe and write on,

Erica
